Miss Dhami is a STEM equality advocate, a committed musician and high school senior. She is a trained classical singer and a keyboard, guitar, and harmonium player. Her love of music has led her to found and serve as the president of her school’s music club.
She believes in the power of affecting the world by facilitating leadership opportunities in her community. In July 2021 she was part of a student panel that shared their expertise on how to make STEM education more inclusive. She helped organize and was a judge for the 2020 Great Indian Coding Competition, a Scratch competition for which she was part of an educator team for a 10-week Scratch programming course for K-12 students in India that has attracted over 25,000 views. This project introduced her to the US-based STEM Impressionists Program, where she is currently an administrative leader. Additionally, she has participated in a variety of competitions. She organised CADCreate, an event in Aditi Tech-A-Mais 2020.
Her dedication to STEM and community has been recognized: she was chosen as the team leader for the Indian team at the 2021 International Young Physicists Tournament (IYPT), a physics research tournament.
Her goal is to pursue a career in Computer Science or engineering in addition to continuing her efforts to promote equality in STEM.
I met Mx. DeHart while working as an intern for CodeTigers. Our team partnered with SIP for a 10-week long scratch course.
The SIP team brought invaluable skills to the table. Under Mx DeHart’s guidance, we learnt how to create effective presentations. Her feedback helped build our speaking skills, and we learnt the importance of improvisation.
I was overjoyed when Ms. DeHart invited me to join SIP. I had already seen the quality of work the SIP members did, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of the team. Being a part of SIP has surpassed all my expectations. Within a month of joining, I have completed multiple courses and spoken at various seminars.
SIP equips us with all the skills required to succeed. Mx DeHart encourages us to always have a resume ready and update it regularly. This has already helped me on multiple occasions. It has provided me with numerous opportunities to forge connections with people in STEM.
